DaVinci IQC Review
✅ Style
When it comes to the IQC in style, I would say the apple doesn't fall far from the tree with this one. It's very similar to the other DaVinci models, the Miqro and the IQ2 but I would say that this one fit right in the middle. Everything from the button placement, lines on the exterior, the area where the charging dock is located is all a beauty to look at.
When you open both compartments where the oven is and where battery is loaded along with the flavor chamber is all consistent design wise and is done up with aluminum finish - You can see why consumers keep coming back to DaVinci and buy their products. .
✅ Portability
This unit is hands down the definition of portable. As it is smaller than the IQ2, this device is super slim and comfortable to hold. Another thing is that this doesn’t draw much attention if you’re vaping in a public or a social setting. This condenser vaporizer comes with a lot despite its size, keep in mind that with indoor usage, users will notice a smell where as if you’re planning on using this outdoor in a sea of people, you won’t have much to worry about.
This additional matte black colour on this DaVinci IQC help add to the discreteness and the adjustable OLED lights with help keep your sessions a secret. The perfect unit for any occasion that will virtually fit into any pockets. When it comes to portability I’m going to give this an 8.5 out of 10.
✅ Ease of Use
Frankly, using this device is very simple - if you’ve used vaporizers before this will be a walk in the park and if you’re very new to the game, this shouldn't take long to figure out as this unit does only have three buttons. Once turned on, you’ll have the option of picking four of DaVinci's smart paths pre-set temperatures.
During these eight-minute timed sessions the temperatures will increase over time. This will not only give you a distinct flavor experience, but an enjoyable vaping one depending on your mood. If you're not into smart paths, don't worry! This thing also has precision temperature so you can set it accordingly and you can enjoy at your leisure.
One of the features that this device has that I absolutely love, is the boost feature. When the control button is pressed and held, it'll automatically boost your temperature from its current setting to 210 degrees, which is great for the end of sessions. Once the control button is released, the IQC will go back to its original temperature. This is a feature other vaporizer that have a boost function don’t have, so it’s definitely a bonus. A solid 8 of 10.
✅ Build Quality
The exterior of the IQC is sandblasted with aluminum. You’ll notice right away that its dense like a rock and feels good in the hands. Inside it's got this nice aluminum finish, and kudos to DaVinci for putting a lot thought into the cosmetics. When you look at the design aspect of the chamber, it has a funnel-like shape. Any herb that's left on the edges can be scooped right into the middle of the chamber. It’s beautiful to look at and it ticks a lot of boxes.
The loading chamber connects to a zirconia cooling chamber, which can be removed and can store 0.5g of herb of your choosing – which can be handy. For a portable handheld conduction device, you can tell that DaVinci upped the ante with this newer version of its product, everything about this feels great and I know consumers are going to enjoy using this. Build quality gets a 9 out of 10.
✅ Temperature
The IQC has two options when it comes to temperature. It has precise temperature that ranges from 121.C to 221.C as well as it offers four pre-set smart paths. These are eight-minute time sessions that the temperature increases over time based on the level that you're currently at, which leave the user with a unique vaping experience. As a new user this is a great option as it gives up multiple ranges to test out to find what works for you.
Lastly, you have the additional boost option that maxes out the temperature as long as the control button is held. I personally love having the option towards the end of session, that way you can be rest assured that all the herb used from the session has been spent. For temperature the IQC gets a solid 8 out of 10.
✅ Flavour
Depending on the lower settings set, (precise low temperatures or the first two smart paths) you get a very smooth draw that's light and with that you’re able to draw out the length of your sessions with is always something no one will complain about and very efficient. On the opposite spectrum when using this at higher smart path levels or maxing it out at 221.C , you get a lot of thick vapors that comes out of this thing especially when you let the vapor build up in the flavor chamber.
One bonus thing I noticed too is that it doesn't taste like burnt popcorn, which is always a plus. For such a small concealable device to get this amount of production out of it, it's again, this keeps taking more of those boxes for me. Flavor gets an 8 out of 10 for me.
✅ Battery
When it comes to this unit and battery, I love that it has an 18650 battery that is swappable. The cool thing about this device in this regard is that has been upgraded is the charge time. It now only takes two hours to charge if you only have one 18650 battery, compared to the IQ2, which took about four long hours. All this is now possible thanks to the USB-C charging included.
You’re now able to get about five sessions out of this or an hour of continuous usage, which is ideal. Keeping a bunch of charged 18650s on standby ready to go turn 1 hour of usage into several, which makes this perfect to take on the good for taking it on the go. Any vaporizer in my eyes that has an 18650 battery that's detachable and replaceable gets a thumbs up from me, having a bunch of these on standby is going to extend your vaping experience. Battery gets a 8.5 out of 10. The extra 0.5s is because the battery is actually included with the unit.
❌ Device Gets Hot During High Temperatures
As the DaVinci IQC has a wide range of temperature options, (using the 4 smart path presets or precise temperatures) it does tend to get uncomfortably hot at its highest settings. Other vaporizers in this category have exterior designs that accommodate for high heat transfer from the vaporizer’s internal oven. Caution is advised when emptying the chamber to reset the unit after a session. Waiting a good 3-5 mins is recommended especially after using the IQC at high temperatures.
❌ Draw Resistance
Regardless of the settings that are set, the IQC tends to deliver a draw that's very clean and flavourful, but one thing I noticed while using this IQC was the draw resistance. It’s important that you take slow draws as well as wait for the unit to build vapor up before drawing. As this unit isn't a Storz & Bickel a Fury Edge or a Rogue vaporizer, you won’t get instant vapor on demand. You’ll need to take your time and do slow draws to get the most out of this thing. I also found that attaching the included 10mm mouthpiece adapter for a more secure draw can help with this issue. One thing I didn't really enjoy, but it excels in other areas.
❌ Adjusting Zirconia Pearl
Style wise this updated IQC is more sleek and refined all around. Whilst the zirconia pearl located at the bottom of the chamber helps with heat distribution as well as air flow, I wish there were a way to make adjust during the session to help with the inconsistent draw resistance. Users may need to take time in order to find the sweet spot of the Zirconia Pearl during their sessions, not to mention they’ll need to wait for the unit the cool down in order to make adjustments. The “Air Dial” which was on previous IQ2 allowed for airflow adjustments on the fly and now navigating this new IQC, I feel this feature may be missed.
❌ Not Dexterous
As this IQC unit is small and sleek, tasks such as loading, cleaning, adjusting Zirconia Pearl may prove difficult for users with dexterity complications or large hands. Tasks such as, removing the pick tool, opening the battery cover, removing the flavour chamber, unscrewing the Zirconia pearl all take some precise precision. As most of these are maintenance tasks, DaVinci does do a good job with making loading the device easy to load and use via the funnel style loading chamber at the bottom of the IQC.
How To Use The DaVinci IQC
When using the DaVinci IQC first, you want to make sure that we have herb loaded in the chamber located at the bottom. Accessories are available for individuals who have dexterity issues /have a hard time loading herbs into the chamber. The loading area of the IQC has a funnel shape style that allows herb to slide down into it, which makes it a lot more helpful for individuals who require assistance. You'll notice the chamber has an aluminum plated area that acts like a funnel. Any excess herb, can easily slide inside.
Next, I’m going to adjust my zirconia pearl and make sure its loose enough to that it packs the bowl to have a session with dense vapor. Press the control button five times simultaneously. Once you do so, you'll see the battery life indicated on the front and then it'll just leave off at the previous temperature setting that you had it at.
Once it hits temperature, you’re ready for a draw. It’s important to remember that light draws are the key to getting the most out of this vaporizer as it does require some patience. At the end of my session, when I’m hitting the boost, you’ll notice the little animation of it heating up. Again, this boost feature I find needs to be a feature that every handheld vaporizer should have.
If you are looking to do a deep clean, all you must do is simply just open the top chamber here and pull the flavor chamber out. Stick the multitool provided it in the crease to pry it out with ease. Once you have that out, you can also push the mouthpiece off as you need to clean that as well. Go through with your brush, take out any excess spent herb and give the interior a nice clean.
Remove the zirconia pearl and with everything you’ll want to soak the items in ISO alcohol for about an hour. Use a Q-tip to remove any grime that’s caked on the soaking pieces. Once cleaned and all pieces have been rinsed off and dried, reassemble your device so that it’s ready for another session.
How To Clean The DaVinci IQC
When it comes to cleaning this unit, it is very straightforward. All you need to do is take the multi-tool that is provided and clear whatever spent herb you have in the chamber. There is also a brush provided in the box to help with any herb logged in hard-to-reach areas. Brush the excess out as well as clean around this zirconia pearl.
As the device does get hot, you’d want to give it a few minutes to cool down before emptying and doing a thorough clean. Pretty much once you have that cleaned out, you're ready to go for another session.
